Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights

Anna Błaszczak-Banasiak is a lawyer, attorney-at-law, and social activist. She graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw and completed postgraduate studies in public international law, European law, and legislative studies. She also completed the Foreign Policy Program at the Diplomatic Academy of the Polish Institute of International Affairs.

For nearly twenty years, she has been actively involved in the promotion and protection of human rights and the prevention of discrimination. Between 2007 and 2020, she worked at the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, where she served, among other roles, as Director of the Equal Treatment Department and Co-Chair of the Expert Committee on the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

She served for two terms as a member of the Board of the European Network of Equality Bodies (Equinet). She also worked at the European Parliament and, for almost five years, headed the Polish section of Amnesty International, the world's largest human rights organization.

She has extensive experience in strategic litigation before courts at all levels. She is the co-author of numerous publications devoted to human rights protection and anti-discrimination issues. In recognition of her professional and social activities, she has received several distinctions, including the Equality Crown Award (2020) and the title of Ambassador of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2015).

She was appointed Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights on 2 September 2026.
