Commissioner for Human Rights

As requested by the Commissioner for Human Rights, the Senate proposes amendments to the Electoral Code on voting abroad

Date:

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Marcin Wiącek, sent a request to the Marshal of the Senate to consider changes in the regulations of the Electoral Code. In a letter dated April 12, 2023, he pointed out that electoral commissions in foreign polling precincts have 24 hours from the end of voting to count the votes. If they fail to provide the voting results to the district commissions within that time, the voting in those districts is considered null and void.
During the plenary session of the Senate on May 10, 2023 the Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights Wojciech Brzozowski expressed gratitude for initiating legislative amendments in the Electoral Code.
He noted that after each election the Commissioner receives a significant number of complaints related to the voting process in foreign districts. This applies to both postal voting and voting at polling stations. This in turn indicates that for abroad districts the number of organizational and technical difficulties is much higher than for domestic districts.
