Recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities – translated. Response from the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy

Date:

Seven years after they were adopted, the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities' recommendations to Poland have finally been made available in accessible formats. The documents are now published in Polish, English, Polish Sign Language (PJM), and Easy-to-Read (ETR) formats.
This process began in September 2018, when the Committee conducted its initial review of Poland's implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Poland ratified in 2012. Following this review, the Committee adopted a set of recommendations for Poland. The Commissioner for Human Rights repeatedly stressed the importance of publishing these documents in accessible formats.
On 26 July 2024, the Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights, Valeri Vachev, formally addressed the Ministry of Family and Social Policy to ask when the translations would be provided. This intervention highlighted the need to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities and emphasised Poland’s obligation to present its next report to the Committee by 25 September 2026, demonstrating progress in implementing the Committee's recommendations. He also pointed out that the absence of a publicly available translation of the document in accessible formats hinders the active participation of persons with disabilities in monitoring the implementation of the Convention's provisions.
The translations were published on the website of the Government Plenipotentiary for Persons with Disabilities on 13 August 2025.
