Meeting of the Paweł Włodkowic Award Committee
On 21 October 2014 a meeting of the Paweł Włodkowic Award Committee was held in the Office of the Human Rights Defender with the participation of former
ombudsmen and laureates previously awarded.
Presenting the candidacy of Mr. Ales Bialatski – a Belarusian human rights activist – Prof. Irena Lipowicz stressed, that the nominee’s determination in ensuring the
observance of human rights is non-conformist and worthy of following. She added, that for the first time the candidate for the Paweł Włodkowic Award is not a Polish
national, which supports true and universal values associated with Paweł Włodkowic as the awards patron. The Committee decision was unanimous.
The annual Paweł Włodkowic (Paulus Vladimiri) award has been established in 2006 by the Human Rights Defender and is awarded annually on the 10th of December – the
International Human Rights Day. It expresses the acknowledgement of the Polish Ombudsman for outstanding acts in defense of fundamental human rights even against the
view of the majority.
