On February 15, 2023, a meeting of the Commissioner for Human Rights, Marcin Wiącek, with the Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Matteo Mecacci, took place.
The meeting was also attended by the head of the ODIHR Democratization Department, Konstantine Vardzelashvili. The main topic of the talks was the situation of refugees from Ukraine seeking refuge from the war in Poland, as well as the situation on the border between Poland and Belarus. Topics related to, among others, the judiciary and the rule of law, anti-discrimination and respect for the principle of equality and other civil rights in the context of the upcoming elections in Poland. The participants of the meeting also exchanged experiences and discussed the possibilities of cooperation and current challenges faced by human rights institutions in the area of protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
