Human Rights Watch representatives made a visit to the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights

On 26 February 2025, the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights hosted a meeting with a delegation from Human Rights Watch dedicated to the situation of persons seeking international protection at the Polish-Belarusian border.

During the meeting, the findings and recommendations of the HRW report on the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border were discussed, as well as prospects for future developments. The participants of the meeting also addressed the draft amendment to the Act on granting protection to foreigners on the territory of the Republic of Poland, which is currently pending in the Parliament and which would pave the way for the temporary suspension of the right to submit applications for international protection. Representatives of the CHR presented the Commissioner's comments on the draft, as well as his positions on other issues related to the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border.

On the HRW side, Deputy Director of the Europe and Central Asia Division Judith Sunderland and Senior Researcher from the same Division Lydia Gall attended the meeting. The Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights was represented by the Chief Coordinator for Strategic Cooperation Maciej Grześkowiak, the Head of the Migrants' Rights and National Minorities Unit Marcin Kusy, Jagna Krotoska from the Department for Equal Department, and Magdalena Kurek from the Department of the Executive Operations and  International Cooperation.
