The first session of the Committee of Experts on Homelessness Prevention
The first session of the Committee of Experts on Homelessness Prevention took place on May 19, 2023. The main topic of the meeting was the issue of illegal evictions, which refers to actions taken by unauthorized persons, without legal basis to force tenants or other people to leave the apartment.
After a discussion, the Committee recognized the need to address this issue. It was decided that the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights would obtain a document dating back to 2019 from the Police Headquarters. This document will be analyzed by the Committee. This analysis will provide the basis for formulating recommendations and opinions regarding the need for potential changes. As a result, patrol officers will be able to intervene more effectively in cases of illegal evictions. Additionally, based on the complaints received by the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, it is necessary to investigate the activities of "debt collection companies" and the response of law enforcement authorities in such cases.
