Conference marking the 15th anniversary of the National Torture Prevention Mechanism
During the conference, Commissioner Marcin Wiącek thanked the NTPM staff and described the activities of the team, including the problems encountered. The Director of the National Mechanism Przemysław Kazimirski described the pillars of the team's activities and thanked the previous Commissioners for their support in the development of the NTPM. The Director of the NTPM described circumstances under which the Mechanism was established, its activities, challenges related to the pandemic, and the migration crisis. Incidents of torture in Poland were also raised and the lack of legal regulation on relevant torture issues was highlighted.
Later in the conference, international experiences in the prevention of torture were discussed. A recording of Ms Barbara Bernath Secretary General of the APT was played. This was followed by Ms Mari Amos from the CPT addressing the problems encountered by the NTPM. Ms Laura Jaffrey spoke about torture in Polish legislation, whereas Ms Ewa Kownacka talked about the topic of the Istanbul Protocol.
The conference was summarised by the Deputy Commissioner Wojciech Brzozowski. He drew attention to the importance of the NTPM's 15 years of activity and congratulated its staff on its anniversary.
