Conference ‘Enhancing the Protection of Rights and Freedoms - The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and its Application in the Management of European Funds’

On 10 January 2024, the conference ‘Strengthening the protection of rights and freedoms - the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and its application during the management of European funds’ was held. The conference was attended by scientific experts, representatives of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, municipal officials and practitioners - representatives of social communities, NGOs and future project beneficiaries.
The conference presented the activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights aimed at strengthening the protection of fundamental rights in the implementation of EU funds in Poland. Representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights also presented the results of the project's research into the whole system of implementing EU funds in Poland and the resulting guidelines for implementing institutions.
The event discussed the difficulties and challenges on the way to effective protection of fundamental rights from the perspective of key institutions and organisations involved in the implementation of EU funds in Poland, including at the stage of drafting fund regulations and programme and project documents.
The conference was held within the framework of the project ‘Support to National Human Rights Institutions in Monitoring Fundamental Rights and Related Aspects of the Rule of Law’ implemented by the OCHR and other project beneficiaries with the lead partner, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), funded by the EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Regional Cooperation. The project aims to strengthen the role of national human rights bodies in the promotion and protection of fundamental rights and the rule of law in selected grantee countries by providing them with advice and institutional support and enhancing their capacity on EU law, with a particular focus on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
