Commissioner for Human Rights asks about overseas voting precincts
Commissioner for Human Rights asks about overseas voting precincts. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds that it is taking steps to properly prepare and conduct elections abroad.
The Commissioner has received complaints from citizens concerning the establishment of voting precincts overseas. In his letter to the Ministry, the CHR emphasized that the establishment of an adequate number of the precincts and their proper arrangement are crucial to ensure that citizens can effectively exercise their constitutional rights to vote. Appropriate organization is especially important to prevent the overload of the overseas precincts.
In its response the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed its intention to increase the number of the precincts. The Ministry announced the creation of 400 voting precincts for citizens overseas - an increase of 80 from the previous election.
