Date:

On April 14, 2022, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Marcin Wiącek asked the Prison Service for official information about the installation of sanitary facilities in 2021 and the planned investments for this year.

In response, Deputy Director General of the Prison Service stated that, as in previous years projects were being implemented to equip prison cells with fully covered sanitary cabins. Between 2011 and 2021 such installations were completed in 6,652 cells. In 2021, this project was completed in 53 cells. According to the information from the district inspectorates of the Prison Service, only 170 sanitary cabins remain to be installed.
In addition, the Prison Service continues to work towards the elimination of cells for more than 10 prisoners. Last year, it was planned to reduce the capacity of 4 such residential cells in closed-type penitentiary establishments.
