The CHR's Marcin Wiącek met with the European Ombudsman, Teresa Anjinho, and the Ukrainian Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets
On 22 April 2025, Commissioner for Human Rights Marcin Wiącek hosted European Ombudsman Teresa Anjinho at the Office of the CHR. The meeting participants were also connected remotely with Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament's Commissioner for Human Rights.
The main topic of conversation was the EU mechanism for temporary protection of refugees from Ukraine, which in its current form is in force until 4 March 2026. The ombudspersons discussed their experience of the mechanism's operation so far, as well as what forms of continued support for refugees affected by the war would be worthy of recommendation.
Considerable attention was also given to the need to identify the challenges faced by Ukrainian children in the educational systems of European countries. The participants of the meeting also discussed the role of the European Ombudsman in the process of controlling the disbursement of EU-funded projects - particularly in the context of programmes intended for Ukraine's reconstruction.
The European Ombudsman was accompanied by Lampros Papadias, Head of Cabinet, and Marta-Hirsch Ziembinska, Chief Advisor. Maciej Kruk, the Director of the Executive Operations and International Cooperation Department, also attended the meeting.
