CHR Marcin Wiącek hosted the President of the European Court of Human Rights Marko Bošnjak
The meeting on 9 December 2024 at the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights was also attended by Polish ECHR Judge Krzysztof Wojtyczek, Polish ECHR Judge-elect Anna Adamska-Gallant, Head of the Office of the President of the ECHR Rachael Kondak and Director of the Constitutional, International and European Law Department of the OCHR Adam Krzywoń.
The participants underlined the important role of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in the human rights protection system. The year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe and the 65th anniversary of the European Court of Human Rights.
President Bošnjak presented key statistics of the Court's work and an assessment of its current activities, as well as drew attention to the increasing importance of the Court's judgements in the areas of judicial independence, refugee protection, climate protection or the use of new technologies, in particular artificial intelligence.
Marcin Wiącek emphasised the need for the state authorities to properly interpret and implement the rulings of the Strasbourg Court, drawing attention to the judgments in cases involving, among others, the Polish judiciary, surveillance and same-sex unions, among others.
